Spring 2025:
I will be teaching this class again in the Spring Semester of 2025. I hope to see you in the course!
Information:
Philosophy 200 satisfies the critical thinking requirement for transfer to the CSU and UC systems. While this is an online course, there are also several sections taught every semester on campus with excellent instructors.
Since this is an online course, there are two considerations to keep in mind. First, if you do not have reliable and regular access to the internet, you should not take this course. Second, this course will require that students be self-directed and motivated. If you have trouble meeting self-imposed deadlines and working independently, you should consider enrolling in one of the on-campus sections of this course instead.
If you’re not sure you’re ready for an online course. You should take a look at this website: http://www.palomar.edu/areyouready/ That may help you decide if you are ready.
The Textbook:
We will be using the following book.
Larry Wright, Critical Thinking: An Introduction to Analytical Reading and Reasoning (Oxford University Press).
The first edition of the book was published in 2001. ISBN: 0195130332.
The second edition was published in late 2012. ISBN: 019979622X
You may purchase/rent/use either edition.
I post the first two chapters online, so you have plenty of time to get your textbook (you have about 3 weeks when the semester begins to secure a copy).
Lastly:
This is an enjoyable, though challenging, course. I absolutely love teaching it and I am very active and engaged in the course. If you have any questions about the course, please don’t hesitate to contact me! I hope you decide to enroll!
