Beginning level (SLO)

Name things found in the home or community. Use verb “Be” and Have” correctly for everyday conversation and communication.

Course objectives for beginning level

  • know how to use basic greetings or salutations in every day life
  • provide basic oral / written personal information related to the content
  • understand greetings and related expressions in speech
  • Understand and use numbers, letters, and appropriate basic vocabulary
  • use basic adjectives to describe people and things
  • Use the verbs “Be and Have” to describe or to use in basic communication
  • Use the basic present tense of everyday vocabulary verbs

Intermediate level (SLO)

Students will describe everyday activities using the present tense and present continuous tense.

Course objectives for Intermediate level

  • provide basic oral / written personal information related to the content
  • understand greetings and related expressions in speech
  • use modals
  • use definite and indefinite articles
  • know basic vocabulary of the classroom, school, community, and occupation
  • Use the verbs “Be and Have” to describe or to use in basic communication
  • Use the basic present tense and the present continuous using everyday vocabulary verbs.
  • Describe matters related to personal experiences and feelings

Advanced level (SLO)

Students will 1) describe a place or thing in 5 – 7 sentences using correct grammar and vocabulary words they have learned in the lessons given in this book; and 2) will be able to compare and contrast things or situations of every day experiences.

Course objectives for advanced level

  • get information from short passages and stories in this book
  • be able to make comparison orally or in written form of things they see or experience in life
  • tell a story about an everyday activity or an experience in travel
  • relate in oral or writing factual details of readings from this book or in “real life experiences”
  • Use a wide variety of verbs from the stories read in this book to describe real life experiences
  • Use the past tense, past progressive, modals, present and past, and perfect in oral communication or in writing
