photo of the medieval port city of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dubrovnik\"><strong>Dubrovnik<\/strong><\/a> is featured on most pages here.\u00a0 I visited this city during June and July of 1971 with my uncle and his family.<br \/>\nMy maternal grandparents left this part of Europe for the United States in the late 1890s.\u00a0 At that time, this region of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dalmatia\">Dalmatia<\/a><\/strong> was part of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Habsburg_Monarchy\">Habsburg<\/a><\/strong>\/<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Austria-Hungary\">Austro-Hungarian Empire<\/a><\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>Travel is an essential part of education, so be sure to visit my page on that part of my life.<\/p>\n<p>As far as the institutions I have attended:<\/p>\n<p>Ph.D.\u00a0 University of California, San Diego, 1990.\u00a0 Department of History.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dissertation:\u00a0\u00a0 1975.\u00a0 Center for Latin American Studies.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Latin American Studies, with an emphasis on the Spanish Borderlands and frontier, and the Andean nations of Peru and Bolivia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>B.A.\u00a0\u00a0 St. Mary&#8217;s College of California.\u00a0 Moraga, California.\u00a0 1969.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Major in History, with studies in Philosophy and the Great
