{"id":413,"date":"2014-02-05T07:04:14","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T15:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.palomar.edu\/lmaunu\/?page_id=413"},"modified":"2023-04-03T10:57:41","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T17:57:41","slug":"resources-for-english-majors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.palomar.edu\/lmaunu\/english-majors-group\/resources-for-english-majors\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources for English Majors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">On this page, I&#8217;ve put together some resources to help you in your studies as an English major.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are some useful study tips<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">At one of our 2011 meetings, we had a conversation about how to write literary analysis essays and what makes for a strong essay.\u00a0 One of our students put together these notes she titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/pages.palomar.edu\/lmaunu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2014\/02\/Interviewing-our-Professors.pdf\">Interviewing our Professors&#8221; <\/a>with all of the ideas we talked about that evening.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hubpages.com\/hub\/how-to-pass-and-do-well-in-english-literature-class\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A website<\/a> that includes ways to study for your literature midterms and final exams.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/hubpages.com\/hub\/how-to-pass-and-do-well-in-english-literature-class\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another site<\/a> that has some good study skills listed on it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are some resources that can learn more about your personality and valuable skills for the job market<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Occupational Outlook Handbook<\/a> &#8212; This website is run by the U.S. Government&#8217;s Bureau of Labor Statistics, and it allows you to look up information about various jobs.\u00a0 For instance, if you&#8217;re thinking about being a high school English teacher or an editor, you can search those job titles, and find out information such as what education you&#8217;ll need for that job, how much money you can expect to make, what the job itself is like on a day-to-day basis, and what the job&#8217;s future outlook will be.<\/li>\n<li>The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)&#8217;s list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naceweb.org\/about-us\/press\/2017\/the-key-attributes-employers-seek-on-students-resumes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the key attributes that employers seek on student resumes<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.16personalities.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">16 Personalities website<\/a> &#8212; This website has a free version of the Myers-Briggs (MBTI) personality test, which will let you know which of the sixteen MBTI personalities you have.\u00a0 Once you take the test, the website will list careers that will bring you fulfillment in life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are some resources that can help you figure out what to do with your English degree:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/english.washington.edu\/career-articles-and-books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">**University of Washington&#8217;s Articles and Books page<\/a> and their <a href=\"https:\/\/english.washington.edu\/careers-english-majors\">Careers for English Majors page<\/a> that lists typical jobs, work applications, and career preparation strategies for English Majors.<\/li>\n<li>**Stanford University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/english.stanford.edu\/information-for\/undergraduates\/careers-after-english-major\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Careers after an English Major&#8221;<\/a> page.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roosevelt.edu\/academics\/programs\/bachelors-in-english-ba\/career-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">**What Can You Do with an English Major?
