I grew up in the south of The Netherlands and immigrated to the United States in 1995. I grew up surrounded by history. Aachen, Charlemagne’s seat was 15 minutes away in Germany. Paris was 4 hours south, Berlin 6 hours east and Brussels and Antwerp in Belgium were only 1.5 hours away.\"Image My home town was established around an abbey in 1104 and many centuries before that the Romans had villas and bath houses there. During WWI The Netherlands were neutral and offered a refuge for many people and during WWII the area I lived in saw a lot of action. We my parents and grandparents were liberated by Canadian forces. Only 2 hours south in the Ardennes the Battle of The Bulge took place. I have always loved history because I lived among so many of its remnants. I chose to teach history because I love telling the stories of our common human journey.<\/p>\n
