These will be analytical essays primarily based on novels that I have picked. A reading guide for each novel containing 8-12 questions , answers to be prepared at home, discussed in a class wide discussion session will help you prepare for your papers <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>Primary Source Discussions<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"> will consist of analyzing selected primary source documents related to the textbook chapters with the help of the questions made available to you on CANVAS. Students will be divided into groups and will be assigned one or two of the primary sources that accompany the chapter(s) under discussion that week. In order to be able to fully participate in your group prep and the in-class discussions, you will be expected to prepare answers to the analytical questions at home and bring them to class on the day of the discussion.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>History Presentations<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"> will be 10-12 minute Power Point presentations on any topic , event or movement the student chooses. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>Exams<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">All exams will\u00a0 cover <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><i>all<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"> lectures and readings. Each exam will have two parts. Part I will be multiple choice questions to be taken on-line on CANVAS, and Part II will be a series of short answer identifications and essay questions based on the lectures, the textbook as well as the primary source readings.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>There will be <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">NO MAKE-UPS<\/span> except for students with permission and or valid excuses. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">It is the responsibility of the student to follow up on any missed exam and or assignment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">LECTURE OULINES<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Lecture outlines are available on CANVAS for each lecture session and are released on the day before each lecture at 9:00 am. <\/span><\/span><\/span><i style=\"color: #000000;font-family: 'DejaVu Sans Condensed', sans-serif;font-size: small\">It is assumed that students will read the textbook for themselves and print out the lecture outlines before coming to class. <\/i><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">\u00a0While I will follow the general structure of the text this course will not simply cover the textbook material. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Students should take notes.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>Attendance and Late Papers:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Attendance will be taken throughout the semester, in the lectures and discussion sections. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Any absences must be followed up by an email within 24 hours to be excused <\/b><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">. Poor attendance will affect your grade. Rosters will be cleared of NO SHOWS on the census date . FW final grades will only be assigned if requested. It is the student&#8217;s responsibility to drop classes they no longer attend.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><i><b>Assignments that are submitted late will only receive half credit. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: DejaVu Sans Condensed,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Alternate arrangements concerning exams or assignments are an option <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><b>only<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"> for those students contacting me prior to test\/due dates.
